The reviews began to pour in around 3 A.M., about 150 so far today from all over the country, and everyone has exceeded my expectations. It's funny, I wrote HPD 18 months ago but it's intended release was pushed off in favor of The Thieves of Legend which I finished last November. This was done to release Legend right after The Thieves of Darkness paperback version and keep up the momentum of that series which is published around the world. But in May a very cool thing occurred in my life--you'll learn about it soon-- that prompted flipping the books releases again. So HPD was crash edited which is actually the way I like to work; fortunately it was mostly my lousy grammer that need to be corrected. And he we are a day before its release, I hope you get a chance to check it out. And as always, thanks for you interest!
The Thieves of Darkness
So the third Thieves novel hit stores and is receiving rave reviews-- Booklist calls it a masterpiece, James Rollins says it's Whip-smart and lightning paced, truly a Masterwork, The Gainsville Times gave it five stars-- all of which is exciting. But next week we will be announcing something that is really, truly, without a doubt out of this world exciting concerning The Thieves of Darkness and Hollywood.
UPDATE
While The 13th Hour is still riding the bestseller list, I wanted to make you aware that The Thieves of Darkness will be out in August. Michael St. Pierre is off to London, Amsterdam, Istanbul, middle eastern deserts and the himalayas all in search of one of history's greatest mysteries. It's a race against time against an assassin-thief who holds the life of Michael's friends in his dark hands forcing Michael to partner with a woman by the name of KC, who's thieving past is as dangerous as Michael's but filled with far more secrets.
In addition, I recently completed Half Past Dawn which will be released in January 2011. A stand alone novel with the intensity, pace, and heart of The 13th Hour but completely different.
What if you could reach back in time and change a single moment?
ADVANCE PRAISE FOR THE 13TH HOUR
If there ever was a novel that deserves to be read in one sitting, this is it. With a totally original and compelling story line, The 13thHour is one of the best thrillers of the year.??? ??"Booklist
One of the top five thrillers of the year - Library Journal
"What an innovative concept -- a thriller in reverse. Brilliantly conceived, perfectly executed. Fresh, exciting, bristling with originality. I only wish I had thought of it first."
-- Steve Berry, New York Times bestselling author of The Charlemagne Pursuit
"The 13th Hour explodes out of the box with pace, verve, intrigue, and an ingenious premise -- a breathless race to stop a murder that has already taken place."
-- Andrew Gross, New York Times bestselling author of Don't Look Twice
VOOK
While The 13th Hour is just months away and the movie is on the fast track with New Line Cinema (I read Brandt and Haas's script, it's amazing), I wrote this quick novella called EMBASSY, over five days back in June. My publisher, Simon & Schuster, and Vook have partnered on this new type of media. High-quality, original video embedded into the text brings this story dramatically and spectacularly to life. The vook can be viewed on your desktop as a full screen, immersive experience, or on your mobile device so you can enjoy it anywhere.
It's not meant to replace the written word as some people are suggesting but instead be a whole new experience.

ABOUT THE STORY:
NEW YORK CITY
Early one spring morning on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Jack Kidd bursts into the Greek embassy with a beautiful woman handcuffed to his side. He threatens to blow up himself and his hostage if his demands aren't met.
OFF THE COAST OF CONNECTICUT
Eileen Mason, her three young daughters, and her wealthy father are in the midst of a 3-day sailing trip from Maine to New York. Little do they know, a bomb has been planted on board and they are under constant surveillance from an invisible adversary.
NEW YORK CITY
FBI agent Ryan Kelley has been dispatched to oversee hostage negotiations. Unbeknownst to his supervisors or colleagues, he has a deep and personal connection not only to the woman being held captive, but to the man who has put her life in danger. He will have to break all the rules to see this crisis doesn't turn into a catastrophe.
So many lives at stake -- and they are all the pawns of one man, a solitary figure who lingers at the back of the crowd gathered outside the Greek embassy. What does he really want? A legendary object of immense power that lies hidden in the basement of the embassy. An object that he is willing to kill in order to obtain.
The First Review of The 13th Hour
"Richard Doetsch' latest novel, The 13th Hour, is the book I wish I had written. It is billed as a thriller, but it is so much more. It has elements of the whodunit, the murder mystery, the love story, the heist, the disaster movie, science fiction, and a journey of the spirit...
"If you have been wishing for another page-turner as good as Da Vinci Code, you can just put yourself on the pre-order list for this book. (This reviewer managed to obtain an advance copy of the book.) It is almost unbearable how one is repeatedly put on the edge of one's seat as each hour (and chapter) winds down and Nick has to avoid arrest, drowning, bullets or other disasters so he can continue his quest to save Julia. It is not the equal of Dan Brown's novel; it is far better! It is a thriller with heart."

THE 13th HOUR
"You cannot kill time without injuring eternity."
Henry David Thoreau
"Fate is the most powerful force in nature."
Nick Quinn, THE 13TH HOUR
"One simple selfish act can reverberate through time, through life, robbing a stranger of his existence. A loved one could meet her death from the repercussions of a moment or an event she may never know or understand. Yet if this one moment didn't occur, if it could be found, could be taken back, the lives it touched could be changed, could be altered, and that one life saved."
THE THIRTEENTH HOUR IS COMING
In a change of events, The Thirteenth Hour will be published before The Thieves of Darkness. While I have been teasing about the next Thieves book which has already been edited and was being prepped for release, Atria has decided to put The Thirteenth Hour out first. Many of the foreign publishers have scheduled the novel as their lead title this year and, with the movie moving along and such a buzz building, it was decided to get the book out sooner rather than later. I promise you, if you enjoyed The Thieves of Heaven and/or The Thieves of Faith you will love this story. We are keeping it under wraps for the moment as it is so unique, so special we don't want to spoil the surprise but, rest assured, it will be worth the wait.
THE THIRTEENTH HOUR - FOREIGN RIGHTS
Foreign Rights to The Thirteenth Hour are being gobbled up around the world with Germany being the latest sale. It's great to know that all of you who have been so supportive of my novels in everywhere from Russia to Italy, Brazil to China, Poland to Japan will be able to peak into this new novel that is outside of Michael St. Pierre's Universe. Though, as bit of a hint, it all takes place in the town of Byram Hills, the same town Michael lives in.

THE THIRTEENTH HOUR to be Published by Atria
The week just keeps getting better and better.
With a pre-emptive bid, ATRIA BOOKS of the Simon and Schuster Family, my publisher for THE THIEVES OF DARKNESS and THIEVES FOUR has acquired worldwide publishing rights for THE THIRTEENTH HOUR. Atria will handle the hardcover while Pocket Books will be publishing the paperback
My editor, Peter Borland, is not only the editorial director of Atria but one of the top editors in the industry. But way beyond that, he is a great guy. The editing process for the Thieves of Darkness was amazing. He has such insight and talent he took my novel and sharpened it into a tour-de-force that we are both excited about and are confident you will find to be the best yet in The Thieves series.
To know that my career is in Atria's hands fills me with such confidence. Judith Curr, the publisher of Atria, and Louise Burke, the publisher of Pocket Books, are two of the most forward thinking professionals in the industry today and have been directly responsible for many of the top bestsellers of the last five years. The fact that they, in tandem with Peter, bought a third book from me before they have even released Darkness is unprecedented and flattering.
Their innovative marketing, advertising, packaging, and leadership will surely propel THE THIRTEENTH HOUR to bestseller status.
All this was brought about by my ever amazing agent Cynthia to whom I am once again, forever indebted.
I couldn't be happier.
Stay tuned.
THE THIRTEENTH HOUR to be Produced by NEW LINE CINEMA and MIKE DE LUCA
I am thrilled to announce that with a pre-emptive bid, the film rights for THE THIRTEENTH HOUR have been purchased by New Line Cinema with Michael De Luca attached as the producer.
You can read all about it in Variety.
New Line is part of the Warner Brother family and is the studio who brought you hundreds of films including The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Rush Hour films, and Austin Powers.
Michael De Luca has produced dozens of films from The Long Kiss Goodnight to Boogie Nights to 21, Zarthura , and Ghost Rider. As the former president of production of both Dreamworks and New Line, there is no one more qualified to bring this thriller to the screen.
I could not ask for a better producer or studio to be in business with.
Joel Gotler, my agent at IPG, did an amazing job in getting this sold. Of particular note, this book has not only not been published, it has yet to find a publisher. Even more amazing, lightening has struck twice: he sold The Thieves of Heaven in the same fashion to Fox 2000 several years ago.
More news soon. . .
. . . including what The Thirteenth Hour actually is.
THE THIEVES OF DARKNESS
I am thrilled to announce that with a pre-emptive offer, Atria Books has acquired worldwide publishing rights for my next two novels. The Thieves of Darkness will be published in hardcover in 2009 with Pocket Books publishing the paperback the following year. My fourth title, which will follows Michael St. Pierre's further adventures, I shall reveal soon, will be out in 2010.
Atria Books, a division of Simon and Schuster, is home to some of today's greatest best selling authors including Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, Jodi Picoult, Stephen Frey, and Ted Bell.
My new editor, Peter Borland, is one of the top editors in the industry and has edited everything from John Irving's Ciderhouse Rules to Stephen Frey's upcoming Forced Out. But even greater than his vast accomplishments and talent, he is a great guy, someone who understands my style and I connected with from the moment we met. Peter is someone who will make me a better writer and help take me to the next level.
I am beyond excited to be part of the Simon and Shuster family. Judith Curr, the publisher of Atria, and Louise Burke, the publisher of Pocket Books, are two of the most forward thinking professionals in the industry today and have been directly responsible for many of the top bestsellers of the last five years.
Through their innovative marketing, advertising, packaging, and leadership they have created an environment that has allowed their authors' careers to grow and flourish with bestseller after bestseller.
All this was brought about by my amazing agent Cynthia to whom I am forever indebted.
I couldn't be happier.
From Publishers Weekly:
Atria Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, announced today that senior editor Peter Borland bought world rights to Richard Doetsch's The Thieves of Darkness in a two-book deal. The new novel continues the series begun in the author's two previous books, The Thieves of Heaven and The Thieves of Faith (both published by Bantam Dell), and follows the adventures of reformed master thief, Michael St. Pierre . Atria plans a hardcover 2009 publication for Darkness, to be followed by a Pocket (paperback) edition the following year.

Was that the greatest Super Bowl ever? Now, if you've read my books, you know who Michael St. Pierre roots for and if you read The Thieves of Faith you know who his father roots for. Could I have planned that any better? Father against son? Of course, Michael was right, as he should be, as he is the hero. Whether you're a Giant fan or a Patriot Fan it was a thrill fest right up to the last second.

The Underlying Themes.
Some of you are very astute. While my stories are truly character based thrillers some of you have picked up on the fact of the underlying themes of The Thieves of Heaven and The Thieves of Faith and have deduced the theme for The Thieves of Darkness. The themes entail Michael's journey and are related.
While these themes are subtle, I believes they truly enhance the character. Michael's quests, whether they be for the life of his wife, his father, for keys, or golden boxes are enhanced as a result of his inner journey. It makes his ultimate success not just physical but emotional and helps to open his heart and soul up to the reader.
Now, that being said, can you figure out the themes?

Thanks to all the bookstores and libraries who have been so instrumental in The Thieves of Faith's success. Be sure to patronize your local bookstore, they are a wealth of knowledge and can turn you on to some great authors you may never of heard of.

The Thieves of Faith is a Bestseller
The reception to The Thieves of Faith has been overwhelming. Reviews have been terrific both from critics and you, the readers. Personally, I avoid commentary where someone is paid to read and render their opinion, I much prefer the opinion of my audience, it's their voice that I value.
I 've heard from many of you that The Thieves of Faith has been selling out. Keep in mind that stores can re-order and receive shipments weekly. Thanks for helping to make The Thieve of Faith a bestseller.

Happy New Year!!!!
I hope you had a safe New Year and that the spirit of the holidays follows you into 2008. Remember, the New Year is a clean slate and holds the promise of success in every sunrise.
Thanks to all of you who rushed out to battle the post Christmas crowds to purchase The Thieves of Faith. For those of you who found your stores sold out, new shipments should arrive this week. Thank you for all the interest and kind comments, I never imagined the response would be so strong. You spend months creating something but you never truly know if it works until the reader gives their blessing
And yes, there are free bookmarks, key rings, hats that have been sent to select stores through out the country to help spread the word.
A special thanks to my friends who helped marshal out these promo items, it was not easy but we have had them spread into every state of the union. It is to these grass root friends that I am eternally grateful. These are the people that help build the buzz, build the excitement. While most areas have heard of my work, there are still pockets that don't know "The Thieves" from Adam; it's through these friends efforts and your word of mouth that helps to grow readership.
Thanks to all for taking the time to read my work. I hope your 2008 is filled with hope and brings your every wish and desire.

The Thieves of Heaven to be released in China
China has just purchased The Thieves of Heaven and will be releasing it this Spring. I love the foreign deals. To have my writing translated into other languages when I barely have a grasp of English amazes me.
